Amusing recipe instruction

The Chief sent me a link to a lamb dish that I plan to try sometime soon.  The recipe happens to includes prunes among its ingredients.  In reading over the directions (I'm learning to do that before diving in, to avoid starting something that's going to take a lot more time than I have), I saw this instruction:  "assess your prunes"!  They want you to see if they look a bit dried out, but the wording makes me chuckle, as if they're undergoing some sort of medical or other inspection.

Comments heard upon wearing a dirndl to work on Halloween

I used Halloween as an excuse to wear my dirndl to work today, complete with "ethnographically correct" shoes & socks (which you can't see in the photo).  It was interesting to hear some of the comments:

• "Are you Anne of Green Gables?"  (My hair is neither red nor long.)
• "I'm getting a Little House on the Prairie" vibe".  (Dress isn't ankle length.)
• Coworker 1: "You look like Alice in Wonderland."  Coworker 2:  "No, that's a blue dress." Me: "Only in the Disney version." And coworker 1: "No, it was black-and-white."  (Obviously someone familiar with the wonderful Tenniel illustrations.)
• "You look absolutely precious!"
• "You look like Little Bo Peep."

"What happened to your hair?!?"

I was among the army of volunteers working a post-funeral luncheon at church the other day.  One of the attendees came up to me during a lull to get a refill and asked "What happened to your hair?"  Turns out she used to attend the mass my choir sings at until the schedule changed last year, shortly before I cut my hair.  She recognized me, but was more familiar with me with long hair.  We had a nice chat about types & lengths of hair and how I've learned about the "Curly Girl movement" and am embracing the curl. ;)  But what a funny way to trade introductions with a fellow parishioner! :D
